Thanks to all who joined us for Halloween at the Frog Pond!

The Frog Pond carousel remained open through Halloween this year! Thanks to all the little goblins who came for a final spin on the Carousel as well as for our puppet show, magic tricks and sweet treats!

Friends of the Public Garden and The Skating Club of Boston Premiere FREE Public Laser Light Show on September 2nd at 7:30PM

Boston, MA—“Laser Lights at the Frog Pond” is coming to the Boston Common Frog Pond on September 2, 2012. This multi-media event is the product of a collaboration between Friends of the Public Garden and The Skating Club of Boston, managers of the Boston Common Frog Pond.

The show will feature a laser graphics show and 3-D aerial beam show, both synchronized to music. Radio BDC, the new station streaming live on boston.com, will program a unique music track for the show and host music on site at the event.

The Frog Pond Café will serve “Say Goodbye to Summer Shortcake,” so the season’s end can be finished with something sweet (Labor Day is the last official day for the Spray Pool). Festivities begin at 7:30pm, and the laser light show begins at 9:00pm. The event is free and open to the public.

“Laser Lights at the Frog Pond” is underwritten with the support of The Friends of the Public Garden. Additional contributors include O’Connell Design Build LLC, Sovereign/Santander and the American Meteorological Society.

The Friends of the Public Garden is a membership organization founded in 1970 with the express purpose of protecting and improving Boston’s first public parks—the Boston Common, Public Garden and Commonwealth Mall.

The Boston Common, our nation’s oldest park, has belonged to the people of Boston since 1634, when each householder paid a minimum of six shillings toward its purchase. For over 350 years, it has been a center and a mirror of civic life, free and open to all. Today, this hallowed ground remains a green oasis in the heart of the city. The Frog Pond opened on October 25, 1848.

The Boston Common Frog Pond is managed through a public-private partnership between The Skating Club of Boston and the Boston Parks Department. The partnership’s mission is to manage the Frog Pond for the benefit of Bostonians and visitors alike and to provide recreational activities year round at a customer-friendly destination in the heart of America’s oldest public park.

It’s time to dig out your skates, sharpen your blades and get ready for another season of outdoor skating at its very best!

A very special thank you to the guest judges for the event, Boston Parks & Recreation Commissioner, Toni Pollock, Colin Zick of the Beacon Hill Civic Association and Paul George of the Frog Pond Advisory Board. The judges, friends and family of the competitors and visiting spectators were entertained and impressed with the skill and determination of the skaters. Joe Blount, President of The Skating Club of Boston congratulated all the competitors and presented the winning medals, including the very first Mayor’s Cup to Team Boylston.

The crowd was also treated to a special exhibition performance by professional skaters Melanie Lambert and Fred Palascak and the Skating Club’s Collegiate Team from Team Excel, just back from competing at the US Synchronized Skating Championships in Ontario, CA. The event was a resounding success, and The Frog Pond Skating Academy would like to thank its coaches, students and their families, as well as the incredible staff at The Frog Pond for a great event and an even greater season! We look forward to seeing everyone back for the 2012 season!

The Frog Pond skating rink officially closes Monday, March 21st. But The Frog Pond stays open year round! The Springs season begins April 15th with the opening of the Children’s Carousel!
